East, South Deodhar tie today

GUWAHATI, March 9 � East Zone will take on South Zone in the lung opener of the Deodhar Trophy championship at the Nehru Stadium here tomorrow.

Star studded South Zone team led by former Indian stumper Dinesh Karthik, had their practice session this morning but some of their stars, including the skipper himself and Robin Uthappa arrived here this afternoon only.

Karthik, after inspecting the wicket in the afternoon said it will be a batsman-friendly track and with some cautious batting any team can build a big total.

On S Sreeshanth, who was not picked by the selectors, Karthik said his absence will be felt as he is a leading pace bowler of the country. He, however, has a strong team with players like Stuart Binny, Abhimanyu Mithun, Sachin Baby and hoped to turn the tables on East.

On his personal performance, Karthik said he is hopeful of making a comeback into the national team as he has been constantly performing well in the domestic championships. He was tight-lipped on the playing eleven and said it will be disclosed tomorrow morning.

Asked about Abu Nechim Ahmed, Karthik said Abu is a good bowler and had the opportunity to play on several occasions against him.

East Zone captain Wridhiman Saha, after the practice session said all the players should take the advantage of home condition. Saha said, �Although the team will miss the services of some leading batsmen, others have to perform and score heavily.� He said openers� slots will be picked among three � himself, Pallav Das and Sib Sankar Roy. On the other hand, Pritom Das, Mura Singh and Arvind Singh have to sit out.

The 50-over match will start at 8.30 am.
