Early completion of BG track demanded

NILAMBAZAR, June 26 � The Silchar-Lumding Broad Gauge Rupayan Sangram Samiti, submitted a memorandum to the senior manager, NF Railway, Maligaon through the station master Karimganj railway station demanding immediate completion of the Silchar-Lumding BG conversion project.

The members of the organisation said that non-completion of the Silchar-Lumding gauge conversion project since 14 year and the delay tactics adopted in completing the said project it has shattered the hopes and aspirations of the people of the entire Barak Valley and the neighbouring States of Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura comprising a population of nearly one crore. This has created severe resentment among the people, as this delay has made their life immensely miserable.

Moreover the non completion of this national project well prove the allegation that a nexus exists among the transport lobby - political leaders - governments of both the Centre and the State of Assam, bureaucrats and the top brass of the NF railway to extract money from the people of the vast area and that there is a conspiracy to let this deprive part of the country remain more deprived, undeveloped and poor. This had led the people to build up a mass agitation.

The members of the Sangram Samiti said that now a days when railway services could be extended to the extremely difficult, hazardous and insurgency-affected areas like Jammu and Kashmir, who will believe the excuses and the stories forwarded time to time by the railway authority and both the Central and the State governments.

The organisation demanded taking up of immediate measures for laying the double track for the smooth running of the trains and demanded to provide more trains on the Agartala-Lumding and Silchar-Lumding route. Earlier, the members of the Sangram Samiti staged a sit-in demonstration in front of the office of station manager, Karimganj. Arungsu Bhattacharjee, president of the organisation, Suman Das, Nirmalya Das, Kiran Sankar Mahanta were present here among others.
