Durga puja in Pandu-Maligaon area

PANDU, Sept 28 � The Pandu-Maligaon area of Guwahati is agog with excitement and enthusiasm to worship Goddess Durga this year with all pomp and grandeur.

Altogether 68 pujas are being arranged and all endeavours have been taken to make them as spectacular and eye-catching as possible. Of them, the Rest Camp Kalibari of Pandu obviously occupies the top most position both in the matter of image-making and general decoration. With a total budget of Rs 11 lakh, the whole show is going to be a grand one. The idol to be made by artisans from West Bengal will cost Rs 75,000 and lighting is to be done by electricians from Birbhum. The pandal is being made in the pattern of South India temples.

Among other important pujas are Maligaon Kalibari with a budget of Rs 7 lakh and idol-maker from Santipur (WB) and decorator from Coochbihar (NB); American colony Rs 7 lakh and idol-maker- Amar Pal of Kolkata; Kamakhya Colony Rs. 4.10 lakh with image-maker from Kolkata, lighting and decoration by artists from Chandannagar (WB); West Gotanagar (52nd year), budget Rs 2.5 lakh of which pandal to cost Rs 1,20,000 and idol Rs 45,000. The pandal is being made in the form of a chariot.

Other pujas worth special mention are those of Nambari Officers� Colony, Phani Sharma Park, RPF Barrack, Accounts Colony, Railway Institute Colony, Jai Hind Club (New Colony), BBC Colony, Anandanagar Puja Committee, Triangular Colony, Sagar Housing Complex and Krishna-Radhakrishna-Gokul Dham Puja Committee of Anandanagar (Adabari Tiniali), BBC Colony (Small Field).
