IMPHAL, March 15 - In one of the biggest recoveries of contraband drugs in recent times, the Assam Rifles apprehended a drug peddler with brown sugar and WY (World is Yours) tablets worth approximately Rs 11.96 crore at Tengnoupal hill town in Tengnoupal district on Tuesday, official sources said.
The Assam Rifles, in a press release here, said that a Tata Sumo Grande (TR01 U 0250) was stopped at a check post at Tengnoupal around 6 pm on March 13 and on checking of the vehicle, 138 packets of brown sugar weighing 1.865 kg and 450 packets containing 90,000 WY tablets were found concealed inside the vehicle.
Narcotics Control Bureau officials made formal seizure of the drugs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 on Wednesday, sources said. The accused peddler, Paokholen Baite, was produced before the court.
