Drug store owner detained

GUWAHATI, Oct 24 - Police today detained Rajib Sarma, owner of Health Home, a medical store located in Kharguli area, after a person reportedly died after consuming medicine bought from the store.

The person, who was identified as Uttam Barman, died after consuming the medicine which had reportedly passed its expiry date.

Following the incident, locals and family members of the deceased protested against the medical store, which they alleged, was running without any requisite permission from the authorities concerned.

�The person had bought the medicine last night and it was in the wee hours today that he breathed his last. It is yet to be ascertained as to what actually led to his death,� the police said.

Meanwhile, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration has ordered an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the death of Uttam Barman.

Deputy Commissioner Kamrup (Metro) Dr M Angamuthu has ordered the inquiry, which will be conducted jointly by Sujata Suchibrata, Extra Assistant Commissioner and Dr Ganesh Chandra Saikia, Joint Director Health, Kamrup (Metro).

�The inquiry report will have to be submitted within three days,� official sources stated.
