Drug peddler arrested in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, June 24 - Police in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh arrested one more drug peddler, for the third time within a fortnight, along with 50 grams of brown sugar.

On June 14 last, a police team from Tezu arrested two motorcycle-borne drug peddlers and recovered 26 grams of brown sugar from their possession, at Tebang bridge point near 32 Mile, Danglat. Tezu Police arrested a woman drug peddler and seized about 10 grams of brown sugar from her at Tezu.

Giving details about the latest catch, Police informed that acting on a tip-off that one person was selling contraband drugs in and around Tezu, a police team accompanied by magistrate immediately rushed there but he managed to escape. It was learnt that the person moved from Tezu towards Sunpura in his car. The team immediately chased him.

After hectic search, the vehicle was spotted by Sunpura Police at Hatiduba village. The police teams cordoned off the area and managed to nab the man, identified as Chopo Mega of Koronu village under Roing in Lower Dibang Valley district.

Eleven plastic pouches containing pink colour powdery substances, suspected to be contraband brown sugar, and an electronic weighing machine were recovered from his possession. The contraband weighing 50 grams and the vehicle were seized and the accused taken into custody. A case has been registered and investigation is underway, said police.
