Dronokanta Saikia Ganabhawan inaugurated

GOLAGHAT, Feb 19 � A newly-constructed school building named after Late Dronokanta Saikia, founder of the Hatiakhowa High School and a prominent social worker of Golaghat district, was inaugurated recently by Md Muhibul Haque, former headmaster of Hatiakhowa High School and a social worker.

A public meeting was held in this connection under the presidentship of Tilak Bora, an educationist and social worker. The meeting was addressed by Upen Dutta, ex-principal and a journalist, Md Azizur Rahman, Rantu Dutta, president, Hatiakhowa High School managing committee, K Kalita, among others. The speakers underlined the achievements of Late Dronokanta Saikia who was the pioneer and founder of Hatiakhowa High School.

In the meeting, the Dronokanta Saikia Education Trust was also formed with an amount of Rs 20,000 as the trust fund.

A souvenir Jyutimoi Pathar Jatri, edited by Kautuvmoni Hazarika, staff reporter of Asomiya Khabor and a writer was released by Jogen Dutta, former teacher and social worker. In the meeting Nabin Saikia headmaster, Melamora High School, also spoke about the life and deeds of late DK Saikia. On the occasion, prizes were also distributed among the winners of different games and sports competitions.

Earlier, Naren Saikia explained the purpose of the meeting. The smriti tarpan was performed by Jagat Gogoi, M Haque, Bolo Gogoi and R Tanti. Several students presented songs, jikir and dance items.

The vote of thanks was offered by Khiro Gogoi, headmaster, Hatiakhowa High School.
