By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 20 Tightening its noose around the commercial establishments violating the norms of trade licence or operating without obtaining proper licence, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) is carrying out drives against the errant hotel and restaurants in the city.

As many as seven such hotels and restaurants flouting norms were sealed by the enforcement branch of the Corporation on Tuesday. Another restaurant would shortly be sealed.

GMC Commissioner S Vishwanathan today told The Assam Tribune that similar drives would be carried out in other parts of the city and owners running their shops without proper licence would not be allowed to operate.

Seven commercial establishments have been sealed in the Paltan Bazar Nepali Mandir, GS Road, Christianbasti and Chandmari areas, a senior GMC enforcement official said.

Other than causing loss of revenue to the civic body, the defaulters also try to get away with substandard services and facilities to the consumers by not adhering to the prescribed health-care norms. We take action on such defaulter on the basis of the report prepared by the health branch of the corporation, he added.
