Drive against violation of Legal Metrology Act

MANGALDAI, Nov 6 - In a bid to check selling of substadard and duplicate objects without printed prices, labels, address of manufacturers and customer care conatct number etc., and use of properly verified, stamped measuring instruments by the traders, a joint team of Executive Magistrate and officials of the local Legal Metrology Department on Friday carried out a sudden drive at Mangaldai market.

The joint operation team comprising Executive Magistrate Antara Gogoi, Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology, Pradio Mili and Inspector Mukul Dutta visited many business establishments and found lapses on the part of a section of traders. According to official sources, they seized one pressure cooker, one LPG stove, packaged cup-plate sets etc., from two business establishments of electronic goods and another unit of hardware goods located at the LNB Road. Three caes have reportedly been registered against the owners of the establishments for violation of the Legal Metrology Packaging Commodities rules 2011 of Legal Metrology Act 2009. Moreover, the officials also seized non auto-electronic weight instruments from one jewellery and two vegetable sellers without necessary verification and stamping and registered separate cases for violation of Section 24 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 , the source added.
