NORTH LAKHIMPUR, May 23 - In a bid to check the unauthorised driving of motorcycles without number plates on the roads and bylanes of North Lakhimpur, police picked up 16 bikes and gearless scooters without registration plates and documents.
The Superintendent of Police had earlier informed the Deputy Commissioner about the menace of motorbikes without number plates and the havoc the riders created in the region. A drive was launched by the police against rowdy bikers in North Lakhimpur town on Wednesday evening.
An attempt was also made to curb the rampant traffic violations by two-wheelers by a team of North Lakhimpur police traffic branch led by DSP (Headquarters), Lakhimpur.
In that operation, motorcycles without number plates and registration documents were seized from riders across North Lakhimpur. The seized two-wheelers were later taken to the North Lakhimpur Police Station from where they would be released only after production of number plates and registration documents, police said.
