Drama contest from June 15

GUWAHATI, May 22 - The 8th All Guwahati Inter-School Drama Competition, organised by Modern English School, will get under way from June 15.

Till date, a dozen schools have confirmed their participation in the competition. It will be held in the Children�s Theatre Auditorium at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra and will begin from 9 am.

This year, the school will be running a special initiative under which it will hold workshops conducted by National School of Drama (NSD) graduates in each of the participating schools. This is being done with the objective of incorporating quality theatre education in each school by the right minds and secondly to further the cause of drama amongst students.

�This is expected to produce a more wholesome and fruitful drama experience overall. The purpose of this competition has always been to uncover new talent, shed light on the burning issues of our day, and to keep the relevance of drama alive. We recognize this potential and are committed to nurturing this art form,� Jonali Das, Principal, Modern English School, said.

The school has been holding the competition for the last seven years. The event has also hosted several prominent theatre and film personalities as judges such as Pranami Bora, Mridul Bora, Nilu Chakraborty, Manik Roy, Niranjan Bhuyan and others. Last year�s judges included prominent actor Kamal Singh, theatre personalities Rabijita Gogoi and Pankaj Jyoti Bhuyan.
