Dr Saikia severs ties with Sabha

JORHAT, Aug 18 � Former president of Asam Sahitya Sabha Dr Nagen Saikia, who was working as the member of the board of governors and Academic Council of the Central Institute of Assamese Studies run by Asam Sahitya Sabha has sent his resignation letter to the president of Sabha today. He also resigned as the adviser of the editorial board of the ongoing project of �Kabyakosh� today.

When contacted, Dr Saikia told this correspondent that the present general secretary of the Sabha recently raised an allegation against some former presidents and office- bearers of Sabha, including him, Homen Borgohain and Basanta Goswami of being involved in conspiracy against the organization.

Dr Paramananda Rajbonshi, general secretary of sabha, also warned the persons in writing and also to abstain from such activities.

Dr Nagen Saikia informed that in a sitting of five former presidents of Sabha, they resolved to clarify their stand and published their statement through media. Dr Saikia resigned from the offices today protest against the comment made by the general secretary of the Sabha.

On the other hand, magazine secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha, Jyotirekha Hazarika also resigned from her position. She said that she had raised question on the Sahitya Sabha Udalguri Session on July 22 this year about the selling of 10 bighas of land belonged to it, which the authority could not answer. She further mentioned the difficulties faced by her while publishing the Sabha magazine (Patrika) due to the apathy of concerned authority.
