Dr Hazarika theme of State tableau

NEW DELHI, Jan 22 � Titled �The Golden Voice of Assam�, the Republic Day tableau of Assam this year would focus on the life and time of the balladeer Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

The great Assamese legend with the golden voice and a multifaceted genius was a lyricist, musician, singer, writer, poet and film-maker. His songs are marked by humanity and universal brotherhood and have been translated and sung in many languages, most notably in Bengali and Hindi. His songs, based on the themes of communal harmony, universal justice and empathy, have become popular throughout the country and many other countries like Bangladesh.

The tableau, which will depict the great singer�s achievements in the fields of cinema, music and culture and literature, has been designed and executed by Noni Borpujari.

Meghalaya�s tableau would display arecanut � a popular cash crop of Meghalaya. Arecanut, tezpata, betel, short-staple cotton, jute, mesta, mustard and rapeseed are some of the important cash crops in the State. Arecanut, is basically a tropical plant which grows well in areas right from sea level up to an altitude of 500 m elevation, the write-up said.

Arunachal Pradesh�s tableau would be based on the theme of Aji Lhamu dance. The Aji Lhamu dance is one of the most prominent folk dances amongst the Monpas and Shardukpens, the Buddhist communities of Arunachal Pradesh. The dance is for warding off evil spirits during bridge construction, a vital means of communication between two villages.
