Dr Dipmoni remanded to judicial custody

GUWAHATI, May 20 � The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dibrugarh, today remanded Dr Dipmoni Saikia, the prime accused in the Dr Sarita Tasniwal murder case, to judicial custody. Dr Saikia�s police custody expired today.

The case diary of the Sarita murder case, meanwhile, was handed over to a team of Assam Police�s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today.

The investigating officer of the case, Inspector Ranjit Singh, who is currently camping in Dibrugarh, will also visit Sivasagar to record statements of a number of persons, including the family members of the victim.

The State Government had handed over the case to the CID days after Dibrugarh police arrested ward boy Kiru Mech and Dr Dipmoni Saikia in connection with the murder.

The accused have been booked under 370/2014 under Section 302 and 120(B) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

The ward boy who was arrested initially confessed before the police that he along with Dr Saikia had killed Dr Sarita. However, Dr Saikia has not admitted to the crime.
