Dr Bhupen Hazarika�s death anniversary observed

DIBRUGARH, Nov 5 � The second death anniversary of music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika was observed today at the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Samannay Kshetra in Rajgarh. A free health and blood donation camp was held on the occasion.

The president of the Samannay Kshetra, Dulal Dutta initiated the day�s programme by paying floral tributes at the portrait of Dr Hazarika. Former Tingkhong MLA Anup Phukan also paid homage to the late cultural icon.

Thousands of people from the area availed of the facilities at the health camp. Doctors from the Assam Medical College and Hospital, Rajgarh PHC, Naharani FRU and Tingkhong PHC � working in the fields of Medicine, Opthalmology, Dentistry, Paediatrics, ENT and Gynaecology � attended to the patients who were also given medicines free of cost. During the daylong medical camp, more than 100 people donated blood, the organisers said.

Bongaigaon Correspondent adds: The second death anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika was observed in Bongaigaon district on Tuesday. The Bongaigaon Mahakuma AASU unit observed the day at Dhalagaon by holding several programmes. At the Borpara Public Field, the Bongaigaon Sanskritik Mancha paid floral tributes at Dr Hazarika�s portrait and organised a function for the rendition of the bard�s evergreen songs by local singers.

A local cultural group, Jilingoni, organised a cultural programme in the District Library in memory of the cultural icon. At Boitamari, the anchalik committee of the AASU held a programme in which religious prayers and a chorus sung by the common people drew a large gathering.

Jagiroad Correspondent adds: The second death anniversary of legendary composer, singer and author Dr Bhupen Hazarika was observed at Jagiroad by various organisations and educational institutions with daylong programmes on Tuesday. The Ray Junior College and Management Institution observed the Sudhakantha�s death anniversary by holding a shraddhanjali programme, which was opened by principal Tarun Talukdar.

Dr BC Neog, principal, Jagiroad College, lit the earthen lamp before the portrait of the legendary musician at the memorial meet organised at the college campus. The Jagiroad AASU and Asom Unnati Sabha units and the local people joined hands to observe the second death anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika at the Kala Mandir here in which Bani Borthakur, president, Arpita, started the banti prajwalan programme. A Bhupendra Sangeet programme was also organised in which local artistes performed. Among others, Jagi Kalpataru Puthibharal and Kristichora, Dr Bhupen Hazarika Sanskritik Gosthi, Jagi Bhakatgaon, Indus Academy School, etc., also observed the second death anniversary of the music maestro.
