DPS emerge champs in school cricket

GUWAHATI, Jan 13 � With a facile 84-run drubbing over Don Bosco School Guwahati, Delhi Public School (DPS) Guwahati emerged winners in the inter school cricket championship and lifted the Nabin Ch Tamuly memorial trophy.

In the one-sided title clash at the Nehru Stadium here today, DPS set a stiff target of 181 losing nine wickets in the stipulated 35 overs after electing to bat first. The highlight of the innings was a 58-ball 64 from man-of-the-match Dhrubajyoti Kalita.

The target proved to be very tough for the Bosconians as they had a dismal beginning and were shot out for 97 in 28.5 overs.

Man-of-the-series and best bowler of the tournament Akshay Narain wrecked the Don Bosco innings with a five-wicket haul.

Former State cricketer Parag Kumar Das, international swimmer Mithu Baruah and sponsor Ganesh Tamuly were introduced to the players before start of the match.

Debashis Saikia of Modern English School received the best batsman of the tournament award while Chiranjib Bora of Faculty HS School was selected for best catcher award.

In the closing function, Assam Cricket Association secretary Bikash Baruah, Don Bosco principal Fr Joseph Thelekatt and former noted table tennis player Mita Sinha Roy were present as guests. Bikash Baruah handed over the champions� trophy to the DPS players. The championship was organised by Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre where 10 schools took part.
