Doul Utsav celebrated at Sualkuchi

SUALKUCHI, March 21 � The three-day colourful Doul Utsav celebrated here under the auspices of Doul Mahotsav Udjapan Samiti, Iswar Sri Sri Hatisatra concluded on March 17 with traditional sports like climbing on the bamboo and bamboo-breaking competitions. The competition was inaugurated by Nilim Kumar, noted poet.

The Doul Utsav began on March 15 with flag hoisting by Bhagneswar Mahanta, satradhikar of Iswar Sri Sri Hatisatra which was followed by �Go As You Like� competition, Krishna Nritya by children, �Mekhdah� and placing of idol at the Doul Temple etc., in the evening. At night, a social drama Laj written by Hemanta Dutta and directed by Nayan Das was staged by a group of local artistes.

On the second day, Holii geet competition and other cultural programmes were performed in the evening, while Nagen Das, retired head master, Bamundi High School released the souvenir.

Padmaram Kakoti Sowarani Sangha celebrated Doul Utsav here with a two day programme from March 15. Dr Mahesh Chandra Baishya started the programme by hoisting the flag of the sangha which was followed by paying of tributes to Narayan Das, a distinguished artiste of the village. Plantation and illumination were other programmes of the day. A cultural procession was taken out on March 16.
