By Correspondent

DOOMDOOMA, Oct 8 - The mysterious death of one Ajanta Lahkar (27), the younger daughter of one Kamal Lahkar from Sookreting No. 8 of Doomdooma town at her husband's residence at Krishna Nagar of Safdarjung area in New Delhi on October 4 night, has created a strong repercussion in Doomdooma area.

Family sources of the deceased, Ajanta got married to one Abhijeet Dhar (35), the son of late Shiresh Dhar, a retired employee of ARC, Doomdooma, who along with his family shifted to New Delhi after his retirement.

As some of their relatives reside at Doomdooma, Abhijeet used to come to Doomdooma to visit them at times. During such a visit, he met Ajanta and they fell in love with each other. Subsequently, Ajanta got legally married to Abhijeet on December 23, 2019, and in June 2020, she left for New Delhi with Abhijeet without the knowledge of her family.

Later, when Ajanta's family came to know that she was in Delhi, they asked her to come to Doomdooma. Accordingly, both Ajanta and Abhijeet came to Doomdooma in the first week of September 2020 and on September 11, Ajantas family organised her social marriage with Abhijeet at the Radha Krishna Temple in Tinsukia according to the Hindu rites.

On September 24, they returned to Delhi again. At the wee hours of October 5, Abhijeet's family informed Ajanta's family that she had committed suicide by hanging in the ceiling fan of the bathroom.

Ajantas family told the local scribes that the girl who talked to her family through video call on October 4 was in a jolly mood and could not commit suicide. Ajantas father filed an FIR at Safdarjung Enclave PS through Doomdooma PS stating it as murder by Abhijeet and his family.

Ajanta's elder sister and a maternal uncle reached Abhijeets residence in New Delhi on Tuesday evening and found the utensils scattered in the kitchen, the mirror in their room broken and marks of injury on Abhijeets body. They also witnessed injury marks on various parts of the deceased's body. Based on the FIR filed by the Ajantas family, Delhi Police arrested Abhijeet and brought his mother Kalpana Dhar (62) and married elder sister Sushmita Das (42) to the PS for interrogation.

Now, Ajantas family came to know that earlier Abhijeet got married to a girl from Dibrugarh, but due to the mental and physical atrocities committed by Abhijeet and his family on her, she took divorce from her husband in 2004.

On the other hand, after postmortem, the body of the deceased was brought to her parental house here and cremated at the Doomdooma Public Cremation Ground on Thursday afternoon.

The people of Sookreting No. 8 area brought out a huge protest rally under the aegis of the Kalita Janagosthi Mohila Parishad against the incident and demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits.
