DoNER asked to take up Arunachal roads

By The Assam Tribune

ITANAGAR, May 19 - Expressing serious concern over connectivity problems in Arunachal Pradesh, Governor JP Rajkhowa has requested DoNER Ministry to take up road connectivity in the State on priority basis.

The Governor expressed his concern when DoNER Secretary Naveen Verma called on him at Raj Bhawan here on Wednesday and discussed various developmental issues including connectivity and socio-economic projects for the State.

Providing a list of 12 Orphan Roads, the Governor asked him to consider them on priority, an official release said.

The Governor emphasised on financing Advance Landing Grounds (ALGs) at Ziro, Aalo and Pasighat for civilian purposes and simultaneously to take up other ALGs in different parts of the State due to their strategic importance.

Commending DoNER for the NEC-funded North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Projects (NERCORMP) in the State which hugely benefited the indigenous population, the Governor suggested extending the projects to four other drug-affected districts of Namsai, Lohit, Anjaw and Dibang Valley, the release said.

He said interior and border districts like Upper Siang, West Siang, Upper Subansiri, Kra Daadi and Kurung Kumey must also be taken up under NERCORMP or other such schemes. The Governor said two institutes of higher education in the State were in dilapidated condition while the first women college of the State was running with temporary arrangement.

During the meeting, the DoNER Secretary briefed the Governor on the programmes and schemes taken up by the Ministry, the release added. PTI
