Donation to Manipur CM�s relief fund for flood victims

IMPHAL, June 22 - A sum of nearly Rs 8 lakh has been donated to the Chief Minister�s Relief Fund by various organisations and individuals to help the victims of the recent floods in Manipur. The Chief Minister�s Relief Fund has received Rs 7,78,250 till date.

Altogether 174 relief camps were opened in the valley districts last week, where 59,170 inmates took shelter. The total number of localities, communities and villages affected by the flood stands at 304, while 23,456 houses were damaged.

The flood claimed seven lives and one person is still reported to be missing. It also claimed 400 heads of animals and damaged 3,947 hectares of agricultural land.

Following incessant rainfall last week, several parts of the valley and hill districts of Manipur namely, Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching, Kamjong, Jiribam, Churachandpur, Pherzawl and Kangpokpi were inundated. A population of 1,80,102 was affected in 10 districts of the State.
