Don Bosco Bihu festival

GUWAHATI, May 4 � The Don Bosco School, Panbazar, is organizing the 9th Don Bosco Rongali Bihu Utsav on May 7-8.

Introduced in the school in 2006, it is now an annual event that helps the students imbibe the spirit and flavour of this unique festival of Assam.

The two-day event would be inaugurated on May 7 by eminent journalist DN Bezboruah, along with school principal Fr Sebastian Kuricheal.

The inaugural ceremony will be followed by Mukoli Bihu, sharing of Bihu delicacies and traditional games like rosi tana, koni jooj, tekeli bhanga, luka bhaku, etc.

The highlights of the festival will be an inter-school Bihu dance competition on May 8 and an evening cultural extravaganza, in which leading artistes of Assam Ranjit Gogoi (Bihu Husori) and young singer Dikshu would perform.

It needs to be mentioned here that to make the children aware of the rich tradition of Assam, a Bihu workshop is going on within the school premises since April 28, which will conclude on May 5. The workshop is being conducted by Simanta Tamuly of Dhemaji, Bihu Samraggis Sangita Gogoi and Nilakshi Borgohain, under the leadership of Anuj Kr Bishaya.
