Doctors strike affects services at NEIGRIHMS

By Staff Correspondent

SHILLONG, April 4 - Meghalaya Health Minister AL Hek today appealed to resident doctors at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) to call off their shutdown and resolve matters amicably.

The doctors began their protest today with a total shutdown of their services demanding that the Director DM Thapa is removed. The services at the hospital were affected to a great extent due to the shutdown.

I appeal to all to desist from strike or shutdown in NEIGRIHMS in the interest of the patients. I have already had a meeting with the agitating Resident Doctors and they have decided to call off the strike, Hek said.

He further assured the agitating doctors that the State Government has taken cognisance of the serious matter and have taken up the matter strongly with officials of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to resolve it.

Meanwhile, the agitating doctors have cited a number of issues and claimed that the Director was functioning in a dictatorial manner and therefore wants him out.
