By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, Oct 31 - The Dibrugarh Municipal Board (DMB) chairman, Soma Chakravorty evaded the floor test of confidence by remaining absent during todays Special Board Meeting called by some 11 Ward Commissioners of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

Incidentally, DMBs vice-chairman, Mukul Deka and ex-officio members of the Board also remained absent from the Special Board Meeting. Eleven out of the 16 BJP Ward Commissioners had initially called for the floor test on October 25 but later postponed it to October 31, 2018 after the chairman failed to convene a meeting within 20 days to prove the confidence of the majority of the Board. The 11 Ward Commissioners of the BJP had expressed no confidence in writing to the Chairman on September 26.

However, the number of BJP Ward Commissioners against the present Chairman today was reduced to ten. Then ten BJP Ward Commissioners Anuradha Dey, Manik Ghosh, Dr Saikat Patra, Jugananda Sensowa, Bajrang K Mittal, Amit Singh, Arpana Das Shah, Rachana Jain, Naushaba Rahman and Shampa Dey along with five Ward Commissioners from the Congress and one Independent Ward Commissioner was among those who attended the Special Board Meeting.

The meeting was presided over by Jugananda Sensowa. The meeting attended by 16 Ward Commissioners of the 22-Ward Member DMB expressed no confidence against the chairman Soma Chakravorty and resolved to hand over a letter to the Deputy Commissioner in this regard. The meeting rejected Soma Chakravorty as the chairman and resolved to ask the vice- chairman to carry forward the affairs of DMB till further direction from the authorities concerned.
