District admins role in making SAG a success

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 27 - Despite being postponed several times due to a variety of reasons, the much-delayed but the biggest South Asian Games (SAG) was successfully hosted in which the Kamrup (M) district administration played a very crucial part.

The event which was simultaneously held at Guwahati and Shillong has been widely hailed as the best South Asian Games ever organised. The Union Cabinet stated soon after the Games concluded that the successful conduct of the Games is to be seen in the context of record time in which it was executed.

The Kamrup (M) district administration made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the 12th South Asian Games. The arrangement for accommodation of the delegates of the South Asian Games started three months before the start of the mega event and after finalisation of the arrangements it was handed over to the organising committee.

The accommodation arrangements for the players and delegates were made in 87 hotels including guest houses and resorts. Altogether 13 executive magistrates were engaged venue-wise for proper coordination and smooth conduct of the Games.

The district administration also ensured that there were control rooms in every venue with dedicated staff. SDRF and NDRF teams were also deputed in each of the playing venues.

All the hotels accommodating the players and delegates were divided into eight zones in which five food safety officers were deployed for continuous surveillance of the quality of food being served. It was barely six months ago when the two cities were finalised as venues but both the States did a magnificent job to host it in the finest manner.
