JORABAT, Aug 30 - An eviction drive was carried out by the Kamrup Metropolitan district administration in Jorabat area today to clear a roadside drain.
Under the direction of Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner Virendra Mittal, a team of district administration officials along with officials from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) carried out the eviction drive against the illegal encroachment on the land meant for the drain.
The eviction drive was carried out under the Jorabat flyover and Ambher area.
An RCC structure and the approach to Shyam Coke and SM Global Coke Pvt Ltd were also demolished by the team. The drain lying parallel to the NH-37 was also cleared and dug up to 28 feet. An area of 200 metres beneath the overbridge was also made encroachment-free.
An official release stated that due to the encroachment on the drain, the water-bearing capacity of the drain has decreased, which is why the residents have been suffering from artificial flood. The eviction operation will continue till tomorrow.
