Dissatisfied Kurmi returns reply to Speaker

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 3 - Dissatisfied with the information furnished by the government, Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi today returned the answer provided to one of his unstarred questions at the end of Question Hour in the State Legislative Assembly here today.

Kurmi had sought to know about the restoration works taken in areas of his constituency Mariani in Jorhat district affected by river erosion.

Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta had laid the reply to this written question, mentioning the various restoration works being undertaken in Jorhat district.

Kurmi was, however, not satisfied with the reply as he pointed that the answer only furnished details of Jorhat and Teok Legislative Assembly Constituencies, but not of Mariani.

The minister has mentioned only about the works taken up in Teok and Jorhat. If no work has been undertaken in Mariani, he should say it, Kurmi insisted.

Handing back the answer set to Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami through a Point of Order at the end of Question Hour, the Congress MLA said he didnt need it as it contained nothing regarding his LAC, as specified in his question.

As Kurmi moved near the well of the House to return the papers, Speaker Goswami stopped him asking him not to create a scene in the House.

Several MLAs had been frequently raising Point of Orders dissatisfied with the replies provided to them at the House. The Speaker too has asked the ministers to direct the officials to supply to-the-point and correct replies to the Assembly questions.
