Discussion on State budget

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, March 17 - A panel discussion on the Assam Budget 2018-19 was held at Dispur College on March 15 under the aegis of the colleges Department of Economics, according to a press release today.

Prof Mrinal Kanti Dutta from IIT, Guwahati and Dr Rajib Sutradhar from the Omeo Kumar Das Institute of Social Change and Development (OKDISCD) were the speakers, while Dr Amar Saikia, Principal of the college acted as the moderator of the discussion.

Both the speakers analysed the issues focused on the budget and appreciated it for prioritising agriculture and farmers. However, they justified the need for adopting more measures to strengthen the agriculture sector.

In course of the discussion, a brief status of the States economy was outlined. It was pointed out that the Finance Minister attempted to cover almost all the areas to make the States economy grow at a faster pace. From that point of view it was an appropriate budget, though, success of every budget depends on its implementation, the participants felt. The session was attended by the students of the college along with the faculty members.
