Dipak Ghatowar chess from September 28

GUWAHATI, Sept 21 - The Dipak Ghatowar Memorial International Rating Open Chess Tournament is all set to begin at the Bir Lachit Borphukan College, Sivasagar from September 28 to October 2.

The championship will be organised by the Sivasagar District Chess Association in collaboration with All Assam Chess Association and is recognised by the World Chess Federation and All India Chess Federation.

The organisers are expecting around 200 players from across the country. An amount of Rs 2,45,000 is at stake as prize-money in the championship. A total number of nine rounds in Swiss League format will be held in the five-day meet. Fide Arbiter Biswajit Bharadwaj has been appointed as the chief arbiter of the event.

Dipak Ghatowar was the president of the Sivasagar District Chess Association till the time of his demise in April this year. He was also the secretary of the All Assam Chess Association from 2004 to 2008.
