Dimoria teacher threatens to sue Dispur MLA over remarks

By Correspondent

JORABAT, Dec 15 - Amid the protests against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) continuing in the State, a statement by Atul Bora, MLA of the Dispur constituency, has created a flutter among the residents of Dimoria area.

Surendra Nath Baishya, a retired teacher of Dimoria and an active voice against the CAA in the area, at a press meet held in Sonapur today informed that the Dispur MLA has wrongly implicated him in the infamous Jogdal murder case to divert the attention of the residents of Dimoria from the ongoing protests.

The development came after an attack on Atul Boras residence in the ongoing protest against the CAA. After the attack, Bora organised a press meet, following which a news was published in a vernacular newspaper where Bora was reported to have stated that Baishya was involved in the attack and that the same person was also involved in the heinous muder case of the year 2009.

In the Jogdal massacre that took place on December 12, 2009, six innocent persons Harakanta Doley, his wife Swapna, their three children and his nephew were beheaded. The massacre was suspected to have involvement of political leaders who were wielding their influence to acquire land in the area.

Baishya informed the media persons that on December 9 last, the Dispur MLA was confronted by a group of protesters for being silent on the ongoing protest. At that point of time, Baishya, who was present there, had asked Bora to clarify his stand as he (Bora) had earlier stood against the Bill.

It may be mentioned that the video of the incident was recorded by the protesters and was widely circulated on social media, which was also aired by a few electronic media channels.

Baishya, who has been seen raising his voice against the controversial legislation these days, said the Dispur MLA has lost his mind after the incident of December 9, during which he might have felt ashamed for being confronted for his stand on CAA.

Baishya had further asked the MLA through the media to take his words back or else legal proceedings would be initiated against him.
