By Correspondent

HAFLONG, May 5 The Dimasa Students Union (DSU), in a memorandum to Education Minister Sarat Barkotoki, has demanded a university, girls degree college, BEd College and technical institute in Dima Hasao district.

The memorandum stated that the establishment of a university here was a long-standing demand while calling for necessary steps to establish the university.

The memorandum added that most students from the district are female and there is only one degree college Haflong Govt College. As the number of students is increasing, there is accommodation problem in the college. The student union requested for necessary steps to set up a girls degree college to admit these students at Haflong.

The memorandum also pointed out that the Haflong Govt College has been facing problems of space and shortage of both teaching and non-teaching staff. The DSU urged the minister to fill up the vacant posts of non-teaching staff, upgrade the boys hostel, appoint professors in 29 vacant posts by giving preference to those working on contractual basis at present and set up a library at the college.
