Dima Hasao has to be promoted as a peaceful place: Daolagupu

HAFLONG, Dec 3 - Kulendra Daolagupu, Executive Member, NC Hills Autonomous Council in charge of Tourism has said that sustainable tourism can provide job opportunities to many if it is developed systematically.

Daolagupu, who got the responsibility of the Department only a year ago while talking to this correspondent disclosed that he was aiming to make Dima Hasao one of the best tourist destinations in Assam, if not in NE. �But negative perception about Dima Hasao district is an obstacle and has to be broken by portraying our district in the right manner. We have to promote our district as a peaceful place,� Daolagupu said. �Tourism was a multisectoral activity which can not go alone. Many departments of our place have to be clubbed together for the development of tourism industry in Dima Hasao. A proper roadmap for tourism development is also required,� he said.

Regarding infrastructure like surface connectivity, Daolagupu said that the people of Dima Hasao are lucky to have the BG track and East-West corridor which runs through the district. �The BG has got a number of trains passing through the district,: he said adding that though road connectivity is taking a long time to be completed, the train services have helped a lot in developing tourism. Many more things are to developed for tourism to prosper in the district like identification of tourist places, connectivity, training of guides, tour operators etc., which the Dima Hasao Tourism Department has been supporting from time to time.

He also said that Dina Hasao got noticed only through the participation in various festivals at Guwahati and Delhi following which a number of foreign tourists toured Dima Hasao. Daolagupu while appreciating the local tour operator the TourAD which has been involved in promoting and handling the tourists very dedicatedly said professionalism is highly required in handling the tourists and for this the Dima Hasao Tourism has also provided support to the locals for training etc.
