GUWAHATI, Nov 7 - Digendra Nath Barua, the first chemical engineer of the North-east who has held many important posts under the Government of India and the State Government besides being the present president of Guwahati Management Association (GMA) and also a present director of Assam Petrochemicals, was felicitated on his 93rd birthday today.
The felicitation function organised by the GMA was held at the Institution of Engineers, Paanbazar this evening.
Retired Chief Secretary of Assam, HN Das delivered a lecture on the topic �Know your Constitution.�
Barua who is perhaps more active today than during his government tenures was accorded a warm felicitation by a number of eminent personalities from diverse fields.
A power-point presentation on Barua�s life and activities was made on the occasion.
Barua who started his career at the Sindri (Jharkhand) fertilizer plant, later joined the Assam Government and was instrumental in the commissioning of the Namrup fertilizer plant. After that he joined as managing director of the Assam Industrial Development Corporation. He was also instrumental in setting up the Guwahati Stock Exchange. He was the sole member from the North-east in the 15-member Central Government-appointed panel for setting up the NEDFi. He was also in the advisory committee of the Industrial development bank of India (IDBI) for the North-east.
Shantikam Hazarika, former Chairman of SEBA also addressed the function which was chaired by HS Das, Chief Information Commissioner, Assam.
Subhabrata Sarmah, vice president, GMA, gave the welcome address.
