JORABAT, July 26 - A major portion of the village road in Hagrapara under Sonapur revenue circle, along the Digaru river has been swept away in a landslide triggered by heavy rains.
All types of vehicular movement in the village have come to a standstill over the last one week and the local people fear that the houses beside the road will be swept away if another 5-6-foot mudslide occurs.
A team of the local units of the All Assam Students Union visited the affected area upon receiving information from the villagers. The team has urged the district administration to build a strong retaining wall or any other concrete form of embankment without delay.
I think we may end up losing our lives or homes if an embankment is not raised at the earliest, said an old man of the village. It may be mentioned that no official from the administration has visited the village to take stock of the situation till the filing of this report.
