Digambar Jains observe Paryushan Parva

GUWAHATI, Sept 7 - The Digambar Jain community of Guwahati observed Paryushan Parva (Das Lakshan), the most important religious festival of the Jains, from August 26 to September 6.

On the last day of the festival, a large procession was taken out. The procession passed through Fancy Bazar area and culminated at Mahavir Dharam Sthal, MS Road, where a special workshop was held and �Abhishek� of Lord Trithankar was performed.

Many members of the Jain community observed fast ranging from 11 to 32 days during the fasting period, with the devotees consuming only a glass of water in 24 hours. This is done by the Jain devotees for purification of their souls.

This year 146 devotees observed fast ranging from eight days to 32 days in the presence of Munishree 108 Punya Sagar Maharaj, Harshendra Sagar, Mahotswasagar and five aryika matajis.
