Differently-abled people apprised of Govt schemes

GORESWAR, Dec 1 - A well-attended meet of differently-abled people and their guardians was held at Madhya Patidarrang Janakalyan Sangha at Sutargaon under Patidarrang mouza in Kamrup district on November 26 under the aegis of well-known NGO Human Resource Development Foundation (HRDF).

The meeting was presided over by Kanthi Saikia, a mofussil journalist working for The Assam Tribune, while Hemanta Bordoloi adviser of the NGO, Bhupen Bhagabati, president of the NGO, Ramesh Mali, president of Khilonjiya Adhikar Sangram Samiti, Assam, Harish Patowary, secretary of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Shishir Kakati, and social workers Ramen Deka and Hiranya Deka were also present as invited guests.

They dwelt at length on the various schemes of the Government meant for providing financial help, employment opportunities, three-wheeler, wheel chair, medical treatment etc., to the differently-abled section of people.

Earlier, Suren Das, the secretary of HRDF explained the objective of the meet and read out a memorandum which contained 11 demands of the differently-abled people and resolved to send it to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup district (R). Chairperson Kanthi Saikia apprised those present about the provisions and privileges offered by the State and Central governments for the differently-abled people.
