Dibrugarh sail into last-four stage

GUWAHATI, Feb 22 � Dibrugarh entered into the semifinal stage of the Elite Group Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament for the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy.

In the last quarterfinal match of the championship, Dibrugarh defeated Goalpara by 113 runs at the Nehru Stadium here today.

Now Dibrugarh has joined Nagaon, Charaideo and Guwahati in the semifinal stage which will be played in league formate from March 21. After the round robin league top two teams will qualify for the final.

On the final day of the two-day quarterfinal, requiring 209 for an outright victory in the second innings, Goalpara team was bundled out for 95 in 22.1 overs.

Earlier, after taking 28-run first innings lead, Dibrugarh resumed their second innings at the over nigh total of 27 for three and were all out for 180.

After some poor batting by the top order batsmen, the lower order took control of the situation and managed to cross the 150 mark. Saurav Bhagawati top scored with 37 while Amit Boro added 30. Suraj Chaturvedi (27) and Prasanta Sonowal (24) were the other batsmen to have some touch.

Left arm spinner Pusparaj Sharma was the leading wicket taker for Goalpara with a rich six-wicket haul.

In Goalpara�s second innings batsmen again continued their dismal show and baring Dhrubajyoti Das (33) no body could stand firm against Dibrugarh bowling. Spinners Deepak Gohain and Prasanta Sonowal grabbed three wickets each while medium pacer Amit Boro took one. Eight of the Goalpara batsmen, three without score, could not even reach double figure.

Dibrugarh 2nd innings 180 ( Saurav Bhagawati 37, Amit Boro 30, Suraj Chaturvedi 27, Prasanta Sonowal 24, Pusparaj Sharma 6/56).

Goalpara 2nd innings: 95 ( Dhrubajyoti Das 33, Deepak Gohain 3/23, Prasanta Sonowal 3/24, Amit Boro 2/18).
