Dibrugarh recalls contributions of RG

DIBRUGARH, Oct 17 - The architect of modern Assam and founder of The Assam Tribune Group of Publications, Singhapurush Radha Govinda Baruah, was paid floral tributes here today as citizens recalled his immense contributions to the State at a memorial function on the occasion of his 115th birth anniversary celebration held at Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa Park here.

The function, organised by the Dibrugarh Radha Govinda Baruah Memorial Committee, was attended by a group of senior citizens of the city. The bust of Radha Govinda Baruah installed at the Park was ceremoniously garlanded by former Chairman of Dibrugarh Municipal Board Chandrakanta Baruah while Bhudev Phukan, President, Eastern Assam Chamber of Commerce and Industries lit the traditional lamp at the altar of the bust. The floral tributes were offered by the others.

Dibrugarh RG Baruah Memorial Committee also honoured senior citizen, veteran sportsperson and freedom fighter Nurul Huda and Amiya Hazarika, a leading sports organiser and at present the Working President of Milanjyoti Sangha. Amiya Hazarika is also known to be one of the pioneers in holding Book Fairs in the region. They were felicitated with traditional Assamese gamoochas, japis and a citation.

Freedom fighter Nurul Huda in his address called upon the gathering to emulate RG Baruah�s ideals so as to keep alive his good works. Earlier, Dr K R Baruah, president of the memorial committee also spoke about RG in brief.

The programme was anchored by Dipom Baruah, member of the memorial committee. He also offered the vote of thanks.
