DIBRUGARH, Jan 25 - At a time when there is a raging demand for full implementation of Assamese language in all official and public purposes, the Dibrugarh district administration has shown its contempt for the native language. The administration's official invitation letter for the Republic Day programmes has been printed only in English.
The district civil administration here is currently led by a non-Assamese officer from outside the State. It is alleged that this officer has not shown any initiative for implementation of the State language in the district throughout her almost three years in her post here. That the language of the Republic Day invitation letter is only in English has been widely disliked here.
