Dibrugarh MLA resigns from two posts

DIBRUGARH, April 26 - Hours after seven fresh faces were inducted into the Assam Cabinet today, Prasanta Phukan, BJP MLA from Dibrugarh LAC today tendered resignation from two posts apparently for being denied a ministerial berth in the expanded cabinet.

MLA Prasanta Phukan was the Chairman of the Governing Body of the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh and president of the Panchayat Election Strategic Committee of the party. The BJP MLA relinquished both the posts.However, he has chosen to retain his Assembly Committee posts. Phukan, during his third term as MLA, appears to have lost public support as well as party patronisation in the last two years.
