NEW DELHI, Sept 28 - Delhi Police is tracking the whereabouts of an Assamese doctor who was kidnapped from the national capital last week.
Dr Hemhari Pegu, an Assam-based doctor who is also owner of Puja Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, was kidnapped from a hotel at Paharganj here on September 23.
He was reportedly in the capital to take part in the AICC rally at Ramlila Ground when he was abducted while coming out to the premises of the hotel. The abductors reportedly demanded a huge ransom from the family for his release. Dr Pegu is the general secretary of Dibrugarh District Congress Committee. The DDCC has also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister in this regard.
A case has been registered at Paharganj Police Station regarding the abduction and police has been raiding all possible hideouts of the kidnappers.
Sources said that a police team on Monday reached Arunachal Pradesh Bhavan in search of the kidnappers. Police suspect that the abductors had stayed in the Bhavan before the abduction.
