Dibrugarh Book Fair ends with big sale

DIBRUGARH, Nov 14 � A business of about Rs 1.7 to 2 crore was achieved while over a hundred different books were released during the 7th Dibrugarh Book Fair organised at Chowkidinghee ground here by Milanjyoti Sangha in association with All Assam Publishers� and Book Sellers� Association from November 4 to 14.

The big buyers in the fair were mainly educational institutions, including Dibrugarh University, which purchased books worth about Rs 5 lakh.

Among others, students and youths showed keen interest in reading books, as this group purchased almost half of the total books sold. The book fair had over 60,000 visitors and books on Dr Bhupen Hazarika sold like hot cakes.

The book fair, which was inaugurated by Sahitya Academy award winning author Yeshe Dorje Thongchi, also had the presence of eminent writers like Homen Borgohain, Dr Nagen Saikia and Rita Choudhury among others during the business days. The fair was also graced by DoNER Minister Paban Singh Ghatowar, Revenue Minister Prithibi Majhi and local MLA Prasanta Phukan and other dignitaries.

Interaction with writers and poets, besides cultural programmes and drawing competitions were also held during the fair. The poets� meet of the book fair was sponsored by The Assam Tribune.
