By Correspondent

DHUBRI, April 22 - In a bid to check growing crimes against women, the Dhubri district administration is all set to form a three-tier committee, which is aimed at creating awareness among the masses.

The decision was taken in view of the rising cases of crimes against women.

According to the police, altogether 143 cases were registered in 2017. But this year, the figure is likely to go up given the current situation. We have seen a rising trend in the month of March and April this year that has become a matter of concern, a highly-placed official source said who did not wish to be named.

Worried over the situation, a high-level meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioners conference hall recently, which was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Anant Lal Gyani, in presence of ADC Sorman Ali, SP Longneet Terang, DIPRO Bikash Sharma, along with the members of district Social Welfare Board, Dhubri Bar Association, NGOs and senior citizens.

In the meeting, it was decided that a three-tier committee comprising competent members will be formed in the district at the police station-level, block-level and at the district level. The meeting also decided that these committees will keep an eye on increasing crimes against women and create awareness among the people.

The members present in the meeting were of the opinion that with proper awareness programmes, rising crimes against women could be contained.

Addressing the gathering, Gyani stated that to completely eradicate such crimes from the society, the citizens should come together and help the administration. He also said that people have a larger role to play in checking the surging crimes against women in the district. He also sought cooperation from the people in creating awareness among the masses. We can contain any crime by creating awareness and by involving the people and I hope this will give the desired results in the days to come, he said.
