DHUBRI, July 13 - As Minister of State for Shipping Mansukh digitally flagged of a vessel carrying stone from Dhubri river port on Friday, a new trade route for Bhutan�s crushed stones to Bangladesh started formally.
A vessel � MV AAI (WB-1668) loaded with 1000 tons of crushed stones from Bhutan started its journey to Narayanganj at Bangladesh from Dhubri river port on Friday, which not only connects Bhutan with Bangladesh but also aims at strengthening the relationship between these countries.
It may be informed that it is the first of its kind trade route where Indian waterway is being used as a channel for transport of cargo between two different countries, using India for transit.
The vessel from Dhubri port will be using National Waterway 2 and Indo-Bangladesh protocol route at mighty the Brahmaputra.
Bhutan has been exporting stones to different projects at Bangladesh using various Indian roads. However, now the aggregates were transported by trucks from Phuentsholing in Bhutan, which is 160 kilometres from Dhubri and from Dhubri it will be transported to various ports of Bangladesh.
