Dhubri Gurudwara turns saviour for flood-affected people

DHUBRI, July 21 - Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Gurudwara located in the heart of Dhubri town is not only providing food and shelter to thousands of flood-hit people in the district but also free medical treatment and relief materials to inmates living in the nearby relief camps.

This Gurudwara is known for helping the people of the district at the time of their needs. According to the Sikh Pratinidhi Board, Eastern Zone, more than 500 families from Dhubri town, Jhagrapara area and nearby char areas flocked the Gurudwara premises since the onset of the flood.

Gurudwara officials informed that the flood-hit families who took shelter at the holy place were accommodated in the 100 rooms, six big halls and two open spaces of the Gurudwara. Most of these inmates were brought by vehicles provided by the Gurudwara.

Apart from these, it was informed that over 10,000 people were fed three times a day in the Gurudwara�s langar.

�We are serving not only the flood victims in our langar but also the people from the nearby areas, the staff of DC office, SP office, NDRF team, Assam Police, the District Court, CRPF and the Army,� said Gurbinder Singh, manager of Gurudwara. He also added that the entire functioning of the Gurudwara is being supervised by the president and the general secretary of the Board.

Almost 40 Gurudwara staff and volunteers from the inmates are engaged in this mammoth task of feeding the needy.

�We have stopped our akhand path and puja archana in our Gurudwara from July 16 to complete this task but akhand path and puja archana have been resumed from today,� said Singh.

The Gurudwara also supplied food to BC Memorial School and Dhubri Girls� School wherein more than 300 inmates are taking shelter. The Gurudwara has also provided drinking water to thousands of flood-affected people in the district.
