Dhubri agog with Bihu festivities

GOLAKGANJ, April 16 � Rongali Bihu, the most colourful festival of Assam, started on Tuesday with a large number of people taking part in the celebrations with songs and dance.

The Dhubri Kendriya Rongali Bihu Udjapan Samiti on Tuesday organized Bihu Maina, Bihu Pari and Bihu Kuwari competitions at the Raja Prabhat Chandra Baruah Playground, Dhubri along with a number of other colourful programmes. The day-long programme was also marked with Bihu dance and other traditional dances, besides performance of Assamese songs.

A large number of people gathered at the Raja Prabhat Chandra Baruah Playground in Dhubri as well as other places in the district to take part in the Bihu celebrations that culminated on Thursday.

Najrul Islam, Deputy Commissioner, Dhubri, Mridulananda Sarma, Superintendent of Police, Dhubri, Ramen Chandra Malakar, Project Director, DRDA, Dhubri, Giasuddin Ahmed, president, Dhubri Sahitya Sabha, Pachu Gopal Chakraborty, former vice president, Asam Sahitya Sabha also participated in the programmes.
