DHUBRI, April 18 - Following the recent suicide of one Shimun Bibi for fear of non-inclusion of her name in final NRC list, the administration has decided to open a separate cell to address the NRC and D-Voter related issues in the district.
It may be mentioned that the recent suicide of domestic help of Dhubri town, Shimun Bibi, due to her inability to produce any legacy data to prove her Indian citizenship either to the Foreigners Tribunal or to the NRC officials, created sensation in the district.
Taking strong action against the occurrence of any such unfortunate event in future, the district administration organized a meeting with officials, citizen representatives and advocates, and decided that an information cell related to NRC and D-Voter issues is the immediate need of the day.
The administration has also decided to include legal officers and DC officials in the cell, informed DIPRO Bikash Sharma. Sharma also said that the NRC awareness programmes would also be organized in different remote villages of the district and would take all necessary steps to make people aware of the updatation process and try to discard all the NRC related rumours in the district.
However, it was also informed that the DC Anant Lal Gyani has ordered magistrate level enquiry in the NRC related suicide of Shimun Bibi. ADC Enamul Hussain has been appointed to investigate the matter in a transparent way.
