By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, March 22 The Director General of Assam Police Jayanta Narayan Choudhury appealed to the people of the State to inform the police about any extortion demand or illegal activities as an when they come across any such instances.

Choudhury, while taking part in a felicitation programme, said that timely information could avert crimes as it enables the police to take prompt action against the culprits.

The programme was organised by Marwari Samaj, Guwahati branch, to felicitate the State DGP, Deputy Commissioner (Metro) Ashutosh Agnihotri and Senior Superintendent of Police (City) AJ Baruah, besides other senior police officials, for successfully rescuing Dr MC Agarwal from the clutches of abductors.

Dr Agarwal, who was abducted by miscreants from Athgaon area recently, was rescued a few days later by the police from Nalbari. The Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (Metro) while addressing the gathering said that the people must remain alert all the time and should be particularly careful in employing any person, be it in their house or in the office establishment.

We have seen on many occasions that people close to the victim, especially employees and close aides, give vital information about latter's movement to people with criminal background. Lack of any record about the background of employees or for that matter tenants had cost people dearly from time to time, the Deputy Commissioner said.
