GUWAHATI, June 13 - The Director General of Assam Police Kuladhar Saikia has asked the Superintendants of Police (SPs) of all the districts to assess the requirement of Central Armed Paramilitary Force (CAPF) in view of the publication of the second draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) on June 30.
�Although we are not apprehending any trouble, the SPs have been asked to assess the ground situation in terms of additional deployment of paramilitary forces. The Centre has assured us all support in this regard,� Saikia told newsmen today.
�The Centre has already deployed 85 companies, and, if required, more forces can be requisitioned,� Saikia said.
A team of top State government officials led by Chief Secretary TY Das and Director General of Assam Police today visited Darrang district to take stock of the emerging law and order and internal security situation of the districts of Darrang, Udalguri and Sonitpur ahead of the publication of the second draft.
The team also comprised Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Alok Kumar, Special DGP (Special Branch) Pallab Bhattacharyya, and IGP (Law and Order) Deepak Kumar.
Various issues relating to internal security and emerging law and order situation were discussed threadbare during the meeting, where the respective DCs, SPs and senior officers of police, Army and other CAPFs were present.
This is the third meeting by the high-power team which will also visit all the remaining districts of Assam shortly before the publication of the draft NRC.
