Devotees throng Dhubri temple

DHUBRI, Feb 26 - Hundreds of devotees thronged the historic Dhelkhowa Shiva Mandir on Saturday to participate in prayers on the occasion of Shivaratri.

Dhelkhowa Shiva Mandir is located in the remote Daobhangi-Khudimari village of the Dhubri district has numerous mythological and religious significance, where this year special prayers have been offered to the Lord Shiva for the peace and harmony.

�In this night, we believe that the Lord will bless us with unity, peace and harmony by destroying all the evils in the society,� said Nagen Sarma, the chief priest of the temple. He also added that people from all over the district as well as State and from other States have visited the historic temple and this year the number of footfalls has significantly increased.

Speaking on the importance of the temple, the advisor of the Mandir Committee, Basanta Kr Roy said, �It is believed that the wishes of the devotees are granted by Lord Shiva here,� adding, �If any one passes by the temple and does not pray to Lord Shiva or throw a stone to the temple then inauspicious events come to the person�s life.�

Massive preparations were made in all the Shiva temples of the district on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri.
