WANGJING (MANIPUR), March 19 After his poll campaign in Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) vice president Rahul Gandhi today addressed a huge election rally here at the Kodompokpi ground, 30 km south of Imphal in Manipurs Thoubal district, where his grandmother Indira Gandhi too had addressed a similar meeting 42 years ago.

Speaking on the occasion, Rahul said that the north-eastern States will be fastest growing region in the country, once it is well-connected with the rest of the country and the neighbouring South Asian countries.

We also have the Look East Policy to connect Manipur with the entire North East and South East Asian countries... Manipur has already been connected with the railway network of the country. The Imphal airport become an international airport and weve connected with Myanmar (and SE Asian counties), he said.

Manipur is a small State. Mary Kom hails from this State and she is an inspiration for every Indian woman. She symbolizes sports in Manipur and the Congress party would like to have women like her in Parliament, Rahul said.

Taking a dig at the opposition, he said that the Congress will not impose any ideas on people but respect the every single idea of every person in the country. The opposition talks about the Gujarat model; but what is the Gujarat model going to do in States like Meghalaya or Manipur? he questioned, adding these are different States and have different ideas.

Raking up the recent death of Arunachal student Nido Tania in Delhi, Rahul said the people from the North East are indeed treated badly in Delhi. Every single person, regardless of which State he belongs to, should feel at home anywhere in the country, he said.

Rahuls poll campaign in Manipur came after BJPs prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modis public rally near Imphal on February 8.
